One hurt, one in custody in W. Shreveport Waffle House shooting

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A West Shreveport Waffle House employee has been shot and a man is in custody this afternoon, after police say he apparently became angry and opened fire in the restaurant.

It happened around 3 p.m. Saturday at the restaurant in the 6100 block of Financial Circle near Pines Rd.

The female employee that was struck was taken to University Health in Shreveport and is expected to survive.

Police say the man, who has not yet been identified, appears to be intoxicated. After the shooting, a witness followed the man out of the restaurant and kept an eye on him after he passed out down the street until police arrived.

Another witness tells KSLA News 12 that he called 911 after watching the man stumble away with a flask of whiskey in his back pocket, reporting that the man reeked of alcohol.

Police say the man did have a bottle of whiskey in his possession when they took him into custody. A K9 unit has been called in to search for the gun along the path where the man was seen stumbling after the shooting.

Police say robbery does not appear to be a motive. Officers are still on the scene interviewing witnesses. They say the suspect remains too intoxicated to be interviewed. He reportedly remained passed out in the back of a Shreveport Police unit, only waking occasionally.

He will be taken to the jail to sober up before police will be able to talk to him.
