HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - The owner of a daycare in Hammond, LA was arrested after being accused of wrapping a blanket around the mouth and nose of a four month old child to prevent the child from crying.
According to Hammond Police and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, the incident happened at Kadlyn's Academy on Old Covington Highway in Hammond.
Along with the cruelty of a child allegation, DCFS also says that other daycare rules were violated.
The daycare also failed to have a safety-approved crib for each available infant in care. Five infants were present but only three approved cribs were available.
In a report from DCFS, the center's daily attendance record for children did not accurately reflect the children on the premises at any given time. This is a requirement from DCFS.
The daycare's license has been revoked and the owner, 66-year-old Mary Jones, was arrested. She was booked in the Hammond Jail and was charged with cruelty of a juvenile and released on bond.
