BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Public schools across the state are showing major gains in student achievement.
The Department of Education released the school performance scores for last year, and for the first time ever, 14 percent of the state's public schools got an "A" and 29 percent got a "B."
The number of failing schools is also at an all time low, dropping to eight percent from 12.
Ascension schools received an A, Livingston and West Baton Rouge both received a B. East Baton Rouge received a C. St. Helena and the Recovery School District both received an F.
The State Superintendent of Education says a change in this year's grading formula can be credited for some of the improvements.
