BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

"If you don't communicate, you won't be here, because that's how we play."

With those words Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks' coach Steve Tucker set the tone for Tuesday's opening day of training camp. The ABA team has to cut its roster down from around 25 to 12 in the coming weeks.

Former LSUS pilots Chris Gatlin and Josh Porter along with former Pilot and Centenary star Tyrone Hamilton are among the dozens hoping to make the final team and join a Mavericks franchise that has won multiple championships in different cities.

Coach Tucker and his no non-sense approach could be felt throughout Tuesday's session.  It's a formula the team says has been a proven winner and they just can't wait to show Shreveport-Bossier what they've got.

"We're hoping to basically prove to the area that we're a different franchise. We're a different type of sports organization. Basketball has a lot of following in this area and we think they'll appreciate the product that we're going to put in the floor. We're really just trying to win over the crowd. We know Shreveport is kind of like a wait and see crowd so we're going to give them something to see. It will be worth the wait," says team assistant coach and public relations director Larry Haygood.

The Mavericks will play its first exhibition game on November 2nd at LSUS. Regular home games will be played at the Hirsch Coliseum. For the full schedule and team information Click Here.
