Assault suspect found hiding in attic

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of a Hammond man on assault charges.

Deputies were investigating a tip that Tyree Wells, 34, was hiding out a Morris Rd. home.

Investigators say they knocked on the door and while they waited, heard a loud banging noise inside the home.

According to reports, Lonell Taylor, 19, answered the door.  When she was asked if Wells was at the home she told deputies no and added that he had not been there for at least two weeks and gave deputies permission to search the home.

Wells was found hiding in the attic behind duct work and taken into custody without incident.

Wells was wanted by Hammond Police for aggravated second degree battery and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Taylor was also arrested for accessory after the fact for hiding Wells in her home.
