NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities are investigating an accident that killed a man working on the exterior of a cruise ship docked at its home port in New Orleans.
A port spokesman says the Sunday morning accident happened as a crew member from the Carnival Conquest was performing maintenance outside the ship. The crew member was in a lift device, referred to as a man-lift or cherry picker.
Carnival Cruise Lines said in a statement that the man was fatally injured when he became wedged between the cherry picker and a platform holding one of the ship's lifeboats.
His identity has not been released.
