Baton Rouge General hosts "Life's a Canvas"

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Spreading the need for cancer awareness and inspiring those fighting the disease to use art as their outlet was the goal of "Life's a Canvas."

Doctors from the Baton Rouge General teamed up with WAFB's Diane Deaton to help motivate people to get involved in their own battle with cancer.

This was the first year for the event, which was at maximum capacity.

Those in attendance were asked to paint their own live oak, which symbolized their family trees and their history with cancer.

"It's nice because they have survivors here and seeing people in all stages really makes a difference," said Dr. Gerald Miletello. "I've talked to patients newly-diagnosed and patients I treated ten years ago, so it's really a great event."

More than 300 people signed up for the free event at Baton Rouge General's Bluebonnet location.
