BRPD offering self-defense class for women

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Dept. is offering a self-defense course for women.

The courses will be held at the Baton Rouge Police Training Academy at 704 Mayflower St.

One session of the class begins on November 5th, and continues on the 7th, 12th and 14th.

The second session starts December 3rd and continues on the 5th, 10th and 12th.

The free classes are open to women over the age of 13.  Participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity.

The course covers defensive striking, common grab defenses, head-lock defenses, bear hug defenses, striking and knife defense, group escapes, reducing the risk of becoming a victim, and facts about violence against women.

Class size is limited.  Participants should register early by calling the BRPD Training Academy at 225-389-3886.
