SU regains lead in a bizarre finish and wins, 20-17

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern beat Alabama A&M 20-17 in double overtime Saturday with a bizarre finish, after both teams had left the field thinking the Bulldogs had won in regulation 17-14.

An intentional grounding penalty on Dray Joseph originally resulted in a ten second run-off by officials, but when the SWAC crew discovered Southern still had two timeouts remaining, they brought both teams back onto the field for a 37 yard Matthew Hill field goal that tied the game 17-17 and sent it to overtime.

Alabama A&M fumbled on its first possession after the Jaguars missed a field goal, and then Hill connected again in double overtime to give Dawson Odums and his Jags the dramatic victory in a game that also featured six Southern turnovers and a lightning delay that lasted almost two hours.
