CORYDON, IN (WAVE) - One of two teenagers accused of killing a Harrison County couple has until January to accept a plea deal or possibly face the death penalty.
Austin Scott, 18, along with co-defendant Keith Andrew "Drew" Schuler, 18, are charged with murder, burglary and theft in the deaths of Gary Henderson, 70, and Asenath "Senie" Arnold, 57, both killed August 3.
Scott appeared in a Harrison County courtroom Friday where Chief Deputy Prosecutor Nicholas Haverstock offered Scott a plea agreement. The plea deal stipulates that if Scott enters a guilty plea to murder then he'll be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The plea agreement expires January 3, 2014. Haverstock said he'll file necessary paperwork to pursue the death penalty if Scott does not accept the plea agreement.
Schuler's attorney entered a motion to delay Friday's pre-trial hearing until January 3 to review discovery evidence.
Schuler and Scott are scheduled to be back in court January 3, 2014.
