LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Livingston Parish and Women Outreaching Women, or WOW, are trying to paint the parish purple to raise awareness for domestic violence.
Parish President Layton Ricks has also declared Thursday, October 17 as Domestic Violence Awareness Day. It's all geared to let women know they can get out of a dangerous situation.
"Louisiana is ranked No. 1 in domestic violence, so we need some type of outlet to get women and children out of that violent situation," said Heather Boley, executive director of Women Outreaching Women. "Without us, they'd have absolutely nowhere to go."
WOW will be holding a Zumba-thon on November 3 to raise money for their domestic violence safehouse.
