Monzel to address 2014 budget, new scoreboard

EVENDALE, OH (FOX19) -

Hamilton County Commissioner Chris Monzel will discuss the 2014 proposed budget during a special one-on-one meeting Tuesday night.

Monzel plans to address several issues on the minds of voters, including a new $10 million scoreboard at Paul Brown Stadium, property taxes, special tax levies, shared services, the Metropolitan Sewer District, the Port Authority and the Port Authority.

Hamilton County Administrator Christian Sigman unveiled his proposed sales tax increase for the 2014 budget, and all three commissioners are opposed seeking alternative ways to balance the budget.

Part of the budget includes paying for Great American Ball Park and Paul Brown Stadium, as well as a new $10 million scoreboard requested by the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to the lease between the Bengals and Hamilton County, "If a Level 1 enhancement is in place in any 14 stadiums... Then county, at the written request of team will install any such Level 1 enhancement in the stadium complex at county's expense."

"Hopefully, they'll pay the majority of it, and we can finance what's left over a few years right now we don't have the money," Monzel told FOX19 in August.

Both sides are hoping to come to an agreement.

Bengals Spokesperson Bob Bedinghaus tells FOX19 in a statement, "The Bengals organization has worked very closely with the county over the past few years.  We recognize the financial situation Hamilton County is currently experiencing.  We do expect to participate financially in the installation of a new scoreboard."

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Evendale Recreation Center, located at 10500 Reading Road.
