(CNN) - He's been a vocal critic of his own party, but Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal says Republicans are not the cause of the partial government shutdown.
Jindal tells CNN no one is focusing on the real issues.
"We think voters are rightfully just disgusted with all the dysfunction in Washington, D.C. Right now, it's the spending, you know, it's the [continuing resolution] crisis. A couple weeks from now, it will be the debt ceiling crisis. There will be another fiscal crisis. Nobody is talking about the root cause problems," Jindal said.
"Nobody is talking about it's the debt, not the debt ceiling. Nobody is talking about the spending, nobody is talking about the existing entitlement programs."
Democrats and Republicans are refusing to compromise over a short-term spending plan to fund the government and end the shutdown.
The next deadline is October 17.
Unless Congress agrees to increase the debt ceiling by then, the U.S. risks defaulting on debt payments.
