18-wheeler overturns and catches fire

WALKER, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police said an 18-wheeler flipped and caught fire, closing Walker South Road in both directions for a few hours Thursday morning.

It happened on Walker South near Henry Drive around 8:20 a.m. Walker South was closed in both directions just north of Henry until just before 12:30 p.m.

Investigators said the driver of the tanker truck suffered minor injuries and told them the actual tank being pulled was empty.

The fire was fully involved and destroyed the cab of the tractor trailer. A pole also caught fire and snapped in half.

Troopers warned traffic could remain heavy in the area for some time as crews continue to clean the ditches of debris.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
