Informational meeting held on widening Perkins Rd.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A major Baton Rouge road is expanding.  The city plans to widen a section of Perkins Rd. from Siegen Lane to Pecue Lane.

Officials held an informational meeting Wednesday night to get feedback about the plan.

While Perkins Rd. can often be a traffic nightmare, project designers say they have a plan that should help.

"This is going to improve the area," said the Stantec Project Design Team's Cindy Hall. "Right now, this is kind of a bottleneck. The two lane roadway connects some other streets that have already been improved."

The project is part of Mayor Kip Holden's Green Light Initiative and comes with a $26 million price tag.

The city is also considering improving intersections, median openings, turn lanes and adding sidewalks to the area.

There is no projected start date for widening Perkins Rd.
