BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge mother faces a manslaughter charge connected to her 12-week-old baby's death.
Officers arrested 29-year-old Kewanda Duncan Monday.
Police records say that Duncan failed to keep her 12-week-old baby, A'Mircle Parker, connected to a breathing monitor. WAFB is told the baby was born 12 weeks premature, so the device was needed to monitor the child's breathing and heart rate.
Police say Duncan left the infant at home with two adolescents on September 23, 2013 around 11 p.m. When she returned home, she noticed her baby wasn't breathing properly.
A'Mircle Parker was taken to a local hospital where she later died.
The cause of the baby's death has not yet been determined.
