Several welfare programs to be impacted by shutdown

Several programs will be affected by the federal government shutdown.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program
- No new WIC participants will be added as a result of the lapse in federal funding.
- Current WIC benefits must still be honored by vendors, such as grocery stores.
- Based on federal guidance issued Tuesday morning by the USDA, it is estimated the program can continue to operate for the next two weeks.
- As of Tuesday, no employees are being furloughed.

Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
- CSFP will not have funds available to continue operating as a result of the shutdown.
- The USDA has not agreed to retro-funding any program expenditures in the CSFP program.

SNAP, Child Care Assistance, Cash Assistance, and Kinship Care will not be impacted by the shutdown.  Benefits will be loaded at the normally scheduled time.  The Louisiana Dept. of Children and Family Services will continue to monitor and assess if there are any other potential impacts.
