BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Former LSU football legend Paul Dietzel was laid to rest Friday afternoon.
Dietzel died Tuesday at the age of 89.
Many of his former players attended the funeral at First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.
Federal Judge Rees Barksdale spoke on his experiences with Dietzel. Jerry Stovall also spoke, calling Dietzel a good man down to the bone.
His son and grand-son talked of Dietzel's accomplishments both on and off the football field during the emotional eulogy.
Dietzel's family asked that donations be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Baton Rouge chapter in lieu of flowers. His internment will be private.
