Designers show off plans for new Lee High School

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The design for the new Lee High School was unveiled Thursday night.

The architects showed their plans for the state of the art high school to teachers, students, parents and school board members.

The $55 million project is part of a tax plan that was voted on back in 2008.

The goal is to make it a magnet school where decades from now, students will come through for an experience unlike anywhere else.

"40 years from now, we should be able to come back to this building and whatever the market dictates in terms of the learning needs of the students, this building should be able to accommodate those learning needs," said EBR Superintendent Bernard Taylor. "The students whom this school will serve ultimately are right now sitting in 4th, 5th and 6th grade."

Construction will begin next year in the spring with the new school expected to open in 2016.
