From Southern U. Athletics
Southern University Police is urging fans to come early to Saturday's football game between the Jaguars and the Jackson State University Tigers at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
The game is expected to draw more than 20,000 fans to the stadium and thousands more who will only tailgate. The combination will mean peak traffic before mid-afternoon, according to campus police. Kick off is scheduled for 6:07 p.m.
Several games played in Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson have attracted more than 50,000 fans. Mumford Stadium's capacity is around 28,000.
Campus Police have devised a traffic plane that includes contraflow into and out of the stadium as needed. Drivers who park in the paid/reserve lots must have their hangtags visible on the vehicles or risk being towed and/or ticketed.
Also, the areas on Isabel Herson Drive, near the Southern University Laboratory School, will be available for parking but will cost $10.
Game day bus parking is $200 for all non-SU Alumni and Booster Clubs.
Parking areas designated for handicapped tags will be available on a first come basis.
