MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) - Authorities have made a third arrest following an attempted armed robbery in June that ended in the victim getting shot. The victim survived and has since been released from the hospital.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said Joseph Cagnolatti, 18, of Morgan City, was taken into custody Tuesday night on a warrant for attempted first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery with a firearm.
Detectives said information they collected led them to believe he could be in the Baton Rouge area and the US Marshal's Office was contacted for assistance in finding him. They added US marshals did find Cagnolatti in Baton Rouge.
He was later taken back to St. Mary Parish and booked into the parish jail. No bond was set.
The shooting happened outside a lounge on LA 182 near the Greenwood overpass in Amelia on June 14 around 2 a.m. Investigators said three men walked up to the victim and while they tried to rob him at gunpoint, the victim was shot.
Paul Charles was arrested June 28. He is also charged with attempted first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery with a firearm.
Dwayne Skinner, 21, of Morgan City, was apprehended July 16 on a warrant for attempted armed robbery with a firearm. Deputies said he had synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his pockets. In addition to armed robbery, he faces charges of possession of synthetic cannabinoids and possession of drug paraphernalia.
