Ex-KC Royal Willie Wilson surprised with new World Series ring

He lost it years ago, but now, former Kansas City Royals outfielder Willie Wilson has his World Series ring back.

And it is all thanks to some family, friends and Royals fans.

It was an emotional night Tuesday at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. As Wilson was releasing his new book, he was surprised with his World Series ring.

His event planner, Helen Mohr, and others set up a PayPal and Twitter account to raise the $8,500 for the ring.

It is an exact replica of the World Series ring he earned in 1985 with the Royals.

His original sold at auction for $16,000 after a judge ordered the auction when Wilson hit an all-time low and filed for bankruptcy in 2000.

Now, Wilson has put his past behind him, but he has never forgotten his ring.

"Everything else you can replace. You can't replace this. It was blood and tears and a lot of hard work. I was trying my hardest to save up for it and try to get it back," Wilson said. "I just feel like all these people here ... some way, somehow I touched them, and they really touched me. I can't put it into words."

After he was presented the ring, Wilson spoke to a cheering audience and said it was the best surprise he has had in a long time.

"I just don't have the words to explain how I'm feeling right now, and all the love I feel from everybody here and all over Kansas City. I'm just feeling really good right now. This is such a surprise," he said.

Wilson said he will wear it with pride and honor.
