BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Cox Cable made changes to the local HDTV channel frequencies at midnight that will affect cable viewers without a cable box.

Cable viewers without a cable box will have to do a rescan to get the local channels on their HDTV starting Wednesday morning. Cox will be finished with the changes around 4 a.m.

Many subscribers have several television sets in their homes with only one on a cable box and the rest attached directly to cable. They will lose all of the local channels and need to rescan to get them back.

Rescan Instructions for most HDTVs:

Go to menu

Go to setup

Channel scan All

Cox said it is changing channel frequencies for "cable ready" broadcast channels that will affect customers in Baton Rouge and Gramercy/Lutcher service areas.

It added the changes will allow the company to bring its customers more High Definition (HD) channels, On DEMAND content and wider variety of programming options. The changes only impact customers who are viewing these channels without a digital receiver (i.e. the TV connection is direct to the cable outlet).

Cox advises customers to refer to their TV manuals for instructions on how to perform a channel scan. Customers need to use the TV remote not the cable remote to reprogram/rescan.

Customers can press the menu button and hit "auto scan." This typically will scan the TV for new signals and channels and then stop when the scan is completed. Once the scan is completed, the customer should have access to the new channels.

Customers should perform a channel scan on each TV connected directly to cable outlet.
