Authorities investigating death of one-year-old East Texas child

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a one-year-old child on County Road 290 in the Chapel Hill community on Saturday evening.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., EMS and a Smith County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a 911 call reporting that a child had been injured after a family member allegedly backed over the child with a vehicle in the driveway.

The child was transported to a Dallas hospital, where the child later died.

"Anyone who's had a child can know that young children, especially, can get out of your sight fairly quickly and so it's tough, and you have to watch them every minute," John Moore, The Public Information Officer for The Smith County Sheriff's office said.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is being released until it is completed.
