Ex-ROC pastor indicted on child sexual assault charges

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The former pastor of the Richmond Outreach Center has been indicted on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14-years-old.

He was also indicted on two counts of indecency with a child.

According to the District Attorney of Tarrant County, Texas, 43-year-old Geronimo Aguilar was charged with sexual assault of a minor after an incident in 1996.

We reached out to the last known attorney for the ROC, Stephen Lewis, for comment on the indictment.

"I am no longer the attorney for the ROC," said Lewis. "I was terminated as of Tuesday of this week. I have been serving as the general counsel to the ROC for around 8 years."

The sudden termination came just days before the indictment.

"And also I resigned from the board and as a member of the ROC at the same time," said Lewis.

We showed the documents to NBC 12 legal analyst Steve Benjamin.

"If he hasn't already, he needs to find the best representation he possibly can," said Benjamin. "This is serious."

The indictment alleges the former pastor intentionally or knowingly penetrated the sexual organs of a child younger than 14 years old with his finger. It also claims he engaged in sexual contact with a child younger than 17.

"The question remains does he go to trial?" said Benjamin. "Does he somehow resolve this with a negotiated resolution? There is no sign that they are letting up. This case has every indication of going to trial unless he decides otherwise."

Aguilar has also been charged in connection with the sexual assault of another, older child inFort Worth in 1996, but that second case has not yet been presented to the grand jury.

His current charge is a first-degree felony, carrying a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Aguilar is currently free on bond.
