BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An employee who was fired from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office was arrested Wednesday for second degree battery and malfeasance in office.

Brent Ashley Rideau, 32, a five year employee of the Sheriff's Office working security at the parish prison, is accused of punching a man who was being booked for disturbing the peace and resisting arrest on August 16, 2013.

Reports say the man was being loud and cursing and yelling racially charged language at Rideau. Rideau then allegedly punched the inmate in the face rendering him unconscious. The inmate was taken to the hospital for a broken nose and fractured face.

The prison was made aware of the incident and conducted an investigation of Rideau's actions. He was terminated on August 29, 2013. EBRSO began a criminal investigation and were able to get an arrest warrant.

Rideau turned himself in to detectives Wednesday afternoon and will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
