CENTRAL, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a truck went off the road and crashed into a building behind a church, causing a fire late Tuesday night.

The Central Fire Department reported it was called out to a wreck at the intersection of Blackwater Road and Comite Drive just before midnight. It happened near Friendship Baptist Church.

Firefighters said on the way to the scene dispatchers contacted them and reported a pickup had hit a church and both were on fire.

Upon arrival, firemen found the truck had gone off the road, through a fenced playground and into a building behind the church. The pickup and building were on fire.

Crews were able to put out the fire and reported the main church building is fine.

"If this was during the day and anybody would had been on that playground, I don't want to think about what might had happened," said Friendship Baptist Church Pastor Rusty Reed.

Officials said the driver was not injured. The driver's name was not released, but investigators described the person as "young." It is unknown if the driver will face any charges.

No firefighters were injured.
