Congratulations to all of our viewers who have recently quit smoking. A new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed last year's graphic anti-smoking campaign was a huge success.
The CDC used a formula to estimate 100,000 people quit smoking, quite possibly because of their "tips from smokers" commercials. Many of you probably saw the graphic ads on our air, which depicted ex-smokers suffering from a number of smoking related ailments.
The harsh realities shown in the spots apparently struck a chord with many smokers and the campaign is being credited with saving lives, as smoking is still the leading cause of preventable death in the US.
While they were tough to watch, the ads were apparently successful. We encourage anyone who is struggling to quit smoking to call the CDC's toll free quit line at 800-QUIT-NOW.
