Team Georgia honored for DYB World Series appearance

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Dixie Youth Baseball all-stars were state champions and represented the city with a Dixie Youth Baseball World Series appearance.

On Monday, the Dougherty County School Board honored the young men and woman who did their town proud.

Team Georgia was recognized before Monday night's school board meeting.

The 9-10 year old all-stars made it to the semi-finals of the DYB World Series in August, before being knocked out by eventual champ South Carolina.

The coaches say they are proud of what their team accomplished and are glad to see the city honor them.

"I'm just happy to see the kids get recognized. They made history. They did a lot of great things," says assistant coach James Hubbard. "We didn't finish the job. We wanted to win everything. But they are state champions, and won third in the World Series, so it's just good to see these kids get recognized."

Eleven of the Team Georgia players attend Dougherty County Schools.
