Southern's Joseph named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week

Southern quarterback Dray Joseph has been named this week's SWAC Offensive Player of the Week. Joseph led the Jaguars to a thrilling victory over Prairie View in a 62-59 double-overtime.

Joseph accounted for 480 of Southern's 625 total yards from 30-of-48 passing and six touchdowns through the air.

He engineered the final 24 yards for a game-winning pass. He completed a pass to 11 different receivers while throwing his longest of the game for 64 yards.

In Alabama State's 40-39 win over defending SWAC champions Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Berry finished the game with a career-high 15 tackles (6 solo, 9 Assists) including a tackle for loss and sack. He also recorded an interception in first quarter in which he returned for 18 yards that led to an ASU touchdown.

Ivy accounted for 18 points in Mississippi Valley State's 35-28 loss at Alcorn State. He finished 9-of-25 for 152 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He also led Valley in rushing with 79 yards on 14 carries averaging 5.6 per rush. He finished with 231 all-purpose yards. He becomes the second player from MVSU to earn the newcomer award for a consecutive week following teammate Davon Jones.

Bobby Wenzig

Wenzig was perfect in Alabama State's 40-39 victory over SWAC defending champions Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He scored a total of 10 points connecting both field goal attempts (41, 30) and all four of extra points. His final extra point was the deciding point for the Hornets' win. He also punted four times for a 39.5 yards per punt average with three of his four punts downed inside the 20-yard line. The only punt that was not downed inside the 20 was his longest of the game for 47 yards. Including last season accolades, Wenzig earns an eigth weekly specialist award.
