PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Police served a number of warrants Thursday night at a Phoenix convenience store and made three arrests as part of a yearlong investigation into suspected gang activities.

Police served the warrants at Eddie's Quick Stop near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road and arrested store employees Pedro Medina, 33, and Tyran Williams, 41, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.

A non-employee was also arrested Thursday night, Martos said.

Martos said the employees and members of a criminal street gang were involved in the illegal activities at the store.

"Some of the activities going on here we believe were related to drugs (sales), prostitution and aggravated assault" and liquor violations, Martos said. He said the employees allowed the assaults to take place on the store's property.

Martos said the store was the center of criminal activity for the neighborhood and officers responded to a high volume of calls related to criminal activity in the area.

He said the investigation was continuing and was related to nine arrests made last week near 25th Avenue and Ocotillo in northwest Phoenix.

Martos said search warrants were also served on Medina's residence near 16400 N. 31st Dr., and Williams' residence near 3600 W. Medlock.

He said detectives seized multiple weapons, marijuana, body armor, two vehicles, money and other evidence.

Martos said the owner of the business was detained for questioning Thursday night but refused to speak to detectives and was not arrested.

A knock at a door in April of 2015 was a herald of death for 29-year-old Brittney Mills. She was pregnant with her second child, and after answering the door, was gunned down by the person outside. Her 8-year-old daughter heard the whole thing, but that would be the last anyone would hear of the shooter.
