Beer Baron Ball celebrates city's brewing history

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

More than 1,000 people attended the Beer Baron Ball Thursday evening in celebration of the city's brewing history.

The inaugural event was held at the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati as an effort to raise awareness and money for the Cincinnati Brewing Heritage Trail in Over-the-Rhine and downtown.

Nearly a decade ago, the Brewery District Community Urban Redevelopment Corp. founded a non-profit dedicated to revitalizing the district.

In 2006, the group started giving heritage tours of Over-the-Rhine which slowly but surely has grown in participation. Now, they hope to make the Brewing Heritage Trail a permanent thing incorporating other community and business organizations throughout downtown and OTR.

"What's interesting in Cincinnati is we have the largest collection of pre-prohibition brewing architecture sites still remaining, and we have an amazing collection of underground lagering cellars, arguably some of the largest in North America," said Brewery District Corp. President Greg Hardman.

Attendees of the Beer Baron Ball enjoyed dinner, drinks, dancing, art and history. It also marked the unofficial start of the Oktoberfest season with the first keg of Gambrinus Stock Company's Lager.
