Free health services to honor vets on September 12

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - While he did not serve, Dr. Nelson Daly, sees it as his mission to give back to the military.  After school, the dentist did his residency with the Veterans Administration.  Then, a year ago the desire to do more sparked an idea among his colleagues.

"Whenever there's some national catastrophe- 9/11, Pearl Harbor, whatever- that's who takes care of us. Those guys protect our freedom. They're risking their lives for me. That's huge," said Daly.

Daly is a part of a national dental group called the Platinum Circle, which founded Freedom Day USA.  For one day, these dentists decided to offer their services to veterans, active military and their immediate families for free on September 12th.

"This whole day is devoted on working on those people, whatever they need," said Daly.

The services do not stop at the dentist office. Nearly 700 businesses nationwide have agreed to participate, offering everything from chiropractic consultations, food and even bowling.

Daly hopes even more businesses will join the effort here in Baton Rouge.  Business can sign up by going to the Freedom Day USA website here.

Veterans can find a list of local participating businesses here.
