BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A special flag retirement ceremony was held on the eve of September 11.
Boy Scout Troop 888 held its Third Annual Flag Retirement at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in remembrance of 9/11.
Veteran David Gabel lost his brother, Michael, on his fifth combat tour of duty. He served two tours in Iraq and three in Afghanistan, where he was killed.
There were 115 flags that were retired Tuesday night.
"By remembering these events - 9/11, Pearl Harbor - we keep it current in the mind that every generation must pay a price to keep freedom because that is what allows us to truly live as human beings," said Gabel. "Humanity does best when we are giving the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Gov. Bobby Jindal has ordered all flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday in honor of 9/11.
