BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Rising flood waters and rising flood insurance rates are striking fear in homeowners following FEMA's latest released guidelines, which show staggered increases in rates.
"The fears are that the rates are going to skyrocket and that people won't be able to pay their flood insurance premiums," said Kelli Walker with Metro Realtors Association. "So, at that point, do they drop insurance?"
US Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-LA, and US Sen. David Vitter, R-LA, along with other members of Louisiana's congressional delegation, are continuing the fight to delay the rate increases.
The latest request asks for officials to delay the increases for at least a year, so lawmakers can figure out a better solution.
