ANGOLA, LA (WAFB) - The man accused of trying to break into the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola after kidnapping his two young children is now charged with attempted second degree murder.
Investigators added the charge because they say Floyd Tillman purposely crashed head-on into one of the cars chasing him at the prison.
West Feliciana Parish Sheriff Austin Daniel said a judge set a $75,000 bond on Floyd Tillman and ordered him to undergo a mental evaluation. Tillman told investigators he was headed to Florida but wanted a tour of Angola first.
Tillman is accused of ramming his vehicle through the front gates of Angola Sunday and leading the officers there on a wild chase around the prison. The chase ended in a head-on collision with a La. State Penitentiary Guard vehicle and guards shooting at Tillman's vehicle.
Investigators reported Tillman had his 8-month-old and a 2-year-old in the car with him. Officials said the children are back with their mother. No one was injured in the shooting.
Daniel said Tillman has an extensive criminal record and had kidnapped his children from their mother, who lives in Terrebonne Parish.
There may be more charges added in this case.
