Bengals fans discuss loss against the Bears

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati Bengals fans are still optimistic about the team's future after a 24-21 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

The away game in Chicago marked week one for the Bengals NFL season with 15 weeks to go. Sunday's loss was hard to stomach for some fans.

"I think everybody got really pumped up in the first half, the first three quarters, and then everything started to kind of fall apart towards the end there," said Kenny Johnson, a Bengals fan.

Despite a three-point loss many fans are still hungry with high expectation for their team.

"I thought this was one of our tougher games of the season. I'm not too worried. I think we'll sweep our division," said Eric Siddiqi, another Bengals fan.

At one point, the Bengals led by as many as 11 points, and took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter.  But, a turnover proved to be very costly, as the Bears scored, and took the lead 24-21, and never looked back.

The team used their last time with eight minutes left in the game, and not to mention, a costly 15-year penalty by Rey Maualuga on a crucial third down near the end of the game.

"I'd prefer for them not to get stupid penalties, and probably have all their timeouts left towards the end of the game," said fan, Kevin Sander.

The faithful say it's too early to be alarmed, though, but there needs to be some fine tuning.

"Just keeping it composed.  There's obviously mental mistakes.  I think they'll come together more this year.  They'll be great," said Shaun Matisak.

But, fans are encouraged by what they saw on the offensive side of the ball.

"Eifert looked really good.  He looked really good.  Our defense, I think they could have done better.  AJ, always the man," said Siddiqi.

Fans expectations are still very high for the rest of the season, as many are still saying the team will make a deep run through the playoffs.

But, their next game is a big division showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers next Monday night, September 16.
