A 25-year-old man died Saturday from police gunfire and not from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a Phoenix police spokesman.
Moses Baeza was shot and killed after he pointed a gun at officers about 5:30 p.m., said Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.
Officers went to the area near 10th and Taylor streets after witnesses reported a man shooting a gun. One person said he heard the gunshots for more than an hour.
"We could hear him shooting all over the neighborhood," Jose Ochoa said.
When officers confronted the suspect, he pointed the gun at them and one officer fired his weapon, Martos said. Police said the man then ran away, still holding the gun.
An extensive search for this man ended when officers found Baeza dead at a nearby property. Shell casings from the earlier shooting were found in his possession, Martos said.
The officer who shot Baeza was not identified.
