Jefferson Co. Coroner rules UPS pilots' deaths accidental

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

After completing its investigation, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office has ruled the deaths of two UPS pilots killed in a plane crash as accidental.

Cerea Beal, Jr. and Shanda Fanning died from blunt force injuries due to the plane crash, according to the coroner.

The pilot and co-pilot were cleared for landing at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in the early morning hours of Aug. 14 when the crash happened.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) remained in Birmingham for several days following the crash gathering evidence and removing the debris from the scene.
