Man charged with attempted murder after fight over gun

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A Gonzales, La. man has been charged with attempted first degree murder and home invasion, among other charges, after a fight broke out over a rifle.

Ascension Parish Sheriff's deputies were called to the 15000 block of Beau Jon Ave. in Prairieville on August 29, 2013. When deputies arrived, a woman yelled to deputies that a fight was happening in a bedroom.

Deputies found an older man and a younger man fighting on the floor. Deputies tried to place the younger male, later identified as 30-year-old Carlos Jackson, in handcuffs, but he began fighting with the officers. A rifle was lying next to Jackson when they placed him in handcuffs and began questioning him.

According to reports, the victim and Jackson were having disagreements, which led to a fight between the two over the gun. During the fight, reports say Jackson repeatedly yelled out that he was going to kill the victim and his wife. The victim said he heard at least three shots fired inside the home while he was fighting over the gun.

Jackson was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder, home invasion, battery of a police officer, criminal trespass, simple criminal damage to property and resisting an officer with force or violence.
