COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police are searching tonight for the suspect who jumped into a car and drove off with a toddler inside.

Police say a grey 2013 Chrysler 200 was stolen Tuesday night by an unknown suspect at the BP Gas Station on Saint Mary's Road.

The car was still running with doors unlocked when the father- who was the driver- went inside the gas station while the baby sat in the back seat.

The toddler is now safe at home.

The child was found on Ukraine Drive just after 11 p.m. when someone called police about a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road.

Police are looking over surveillance video from the gas station to obtain more information about the suspect.
