AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

The city of Auburn is continuing to grow.

Two companies with plants in Auburn have asked for the city council's help in approving tax abatements, or tax incentives, in order to expand.

"Of course we always want everybody to remember that we don't abate children's homes, hospitals and certainly education taxes," explains Auburn Mayor, Bill Ham.

Pyongsan America, Inc, a Korean based automotive supplier located in Technology Park North, anticipates hiring 45 new employees with a capital investment of approximately $2 million.

toolCare US International, LLC, a manufacturer of new tooling, who performs tool modifications and engineering changes, anticipates expanding and hiring three new employees with a capital investment of over $900,000.

"This is new investment so this is money we've never seen before because its added to what they're already doing," says Ham.

Word of businesses expanding a deciding to build here in east Alabama has caught national attention.

Last month CNN's Money Magazine ranked Lee County as number 22 in the nation for "where the jobs are."

The magazine notes Lee County's job growth of 9% between 2010 and 2012 and proximity to Atlanta as factors in placing Lee County on the list.

"We're fortunate in talking about creating jobs and I think that seems to be the consistent word throughout the country as people are hoping to be able to do that and we're very fortunate to be able to do that," explains Ham.

Both abatements were passed at city council Tuesday.
