NOPD suspends officer after off-duty DWI arrest

Posted: Updated:
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -

New Orleans police say an officer has been suspended without pay after being booked with drunk driving while off duty.

Spokeswoman Remi (REM-ee) Braden says the department is investigating Officer Jayson Germann.

State Trooper Nick Manale (muh-NAH-lee) says Germann, of Bush, apparently lost control of his unmarked car shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the Interstate 10 twin span. Manale says the Chevrolet Impala hit a guardrail, swerved back and hit a Geo.

He says Germann was booked with careless driving, and he and 53-year-old Frank Hyde of Slidell both were booked with DWI.

Manale says neither was injured.

Slidell police say Hyde remains jailed and Germann is out on bond.

A phone listed as Germann's was not answered Sunday. It was not clear whether either driver has an attorney.
