BRPD arrests Lake Charles man for air conditioning theft

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Lake Charles man has been arrested for air conditioning unit theft Thursday afternoon, August 29.

According to Cpl. L'Jean McKneely of the Baton Rouge Police Department, Brent Ducote, 38, was accused of stealing several air conditioning units throughout the Baton Rouge area. He was charged with 6 counts of Theft of used building components and Resisting an officer.

BRPD reports detectives who were staking a local business took Ducote into custody after he was attempting to steal an air conditioning unit.

Earlier in the month, BRPD confirmed there had been multiple reports of air conditioning thefts in Baton Rouge, particularly in the Sherwood Forest and Airline area. However, there has been no information from BRPD on whether Ducote was connected to those incidents.

He was placed in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Police advise protecting air conditioning units from theft by placing units in protective cages under lock and key, or investing in surveillance equipment.
