NEW ORLEANS, LA (WWL-TV) - Police are investigating a double shooting that took the life of a 1-year-old girl in New Orleans Thursday night.
WWL-TV reports the child and her 18-year-old babysitter were shot while walking near the intersection of South Saratoga Street and Washington Avenue in Central City a little before 8:30 p.m.
The babysitter was reportedly shot in the back but is expected to survive. Police said they are looking for two suspects but have not released any names. Investigators added the suspects ran away from the scene.
NOPD blocked a portion of LaSalle Street early Thursday morning and WWL reported police said it could possibly be related to the shooting. The street has been reopened.
Reportedly, detectives tried to interview someone at a home and those inside refused to speak with police. The NOPD SWAT team was called to the scene.
WWL added the NOPD SWAT team eventually went inside the home. Officers found two women, a man and three children inside. They are in the process of interviewing the adults.
NOPD is currently searching for another man who might be still inside the home.
