WALNUT HILLS (FOX19) -

More than 3,700 people were without power after a piece of underground equipment caught fire Wednesday evening in Walnut Hills.

According to Duke Energy, it happened around 8:30 p.m. near Myrtle and Park Avenue. Emergency crews initially received reports of smoke coming from a manhole at the intersection.

As a result, the underground fire caused a power outage for customers in the neighborhood as well as surrounding areas.

At the highest point, up to 4,600 customers in Hamilton County were in the dark.

Within a couple hours, Duke Energy crews were able to re-route power to other circuits and slowly restore those outages.
