Former SC youth pastor accused of assaulting woman

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -

A former South Carolina church youth minister has been charged with assault and battery after a woman accused him of groping her.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported that City Judge Barney Houser set a $10,000 bail for 36-year-old Patrick Hattler in Orangeburg Municipal Court on Tuesday.

Houser ordered Hattler to have no contact with the woman.

Investigator John Caddell said the incident happened at Cornerstone Church in April. The woman told investigators that Hattler pushed her against a wall and groped her when they were alone in a room.

The newspaper said church officials fired Hattler from his job as youth minister and told him to leave the church.

Hattler denies the charge. It was no5 clear whether he had an attorney.
