PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - The top cop in the city of Port Allen is trying to get the support of some council members to re-vamp the department's fleet of vehicles.
Police Chief Esdron Brown said Port Allen desperately needs to update its police cars. He added some of them are 14 years old.
According to Brown, two of the council members met with him and other high ranking officers Wednesday ahead of upcoming budget talks.
Brown said officers have not been able to do their jobs in some cases because of the out-dated vehicles.
"Yes, actually an officer had been responding to calls to do their job help the public and the car will just kill and go out on them; couldn't get to the call," Brown explained. "We've had calls where the light bars have actually fell off them as they were going to calls, so that stopped them from serving the public when they're called to do so. So, we're in real bad shape."
The budget debate is scheduled for next Wednesday at the Port Allen City Council meeting.
