Joint task force nets 3 suspects in theft of thousands from businesses

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - A man accused of being part of a trio suspected of stealing more than $100,000 worth of merchandise from businesses faces a bond of $1 million.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reported Sherod Champ, 39, is charged with three counts of burglary. He is being held in the Tangipahoa Parish Prison. Deputies said Dominique Arce is in the Orleans Parish Prison and Nicholas Luther is in the Jefferson Parish Prison. They are awaiting transfer to Tangipahoa Parish.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards reported a joint burglary task force took the three suspects into custody in connection with burglaries on April 7 and May 22. Those two crimes happened at Boat City USA on Club Deluxe Road in Hammond. Investigators said Champ and one of the other suspects are also accused of another burglary on May 22 at EBI Machinery in Ponchatoula.

Deputies said charges for business burglaries in other areas are pending against the three suspects.

The task force was made up of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, Hammond Police Department, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, New Orleans Police Department and Louisiana State Police.
