Councilman: Turn CATS over to a private operator

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge Metro Councilman is proposing to turn over operations of CATS to a private company.

Councilman John Delgado plans to introduce the idea at Wednesday's Metro-Council meeting.

"What we've got now clearly is not working, with every scandal that has come up, and beyond that - we know this system has failed to meet its promises to the tax payers and to the riders," said Delgado. "There are hundreds of people who rely on this service every day to get to the doctor, to get to work.

Interim CATS CEO Bob Mirabito questioned whether a private transit system would better.

The plan would still require approval from the legislature and the governor.
